Ye Olde Homeschoolers Revel in the Middle Ages |
|
April 2013 - Local homeschoolers dress in typical Medieval garb for the Medieval Feast held at Academy Days Homeschool Co-op recently.
Pictured from the co-op's world history class for grades 7 through 9 are Windsor Joye of Deatsville, Kanijah Brown of Montgomery, Sarah Phillips of Millbrook, Callie Littlefield of Elmore, and Caleb Brailsford of Montgomery.
During the feast, the five students, their fellow homeschoolers and parents learned about Medieval customs and conventions, tried out period replicas, and watched sword fights and various other demonstrations led by skilled members from the Shire of Thorngill, the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism.
While watching the re-enactors, the homeschoolers enjoyed eating roasted chicken, marinated beef, and various tarts and custards, all served Medieval-style -- without forks! Presided over by a student king and queen, the Medieval Feast culminated weeks of study and research on the Middle Ages.
The Academy Days Co-op, held Thursdays during the school year at Coosada Baptist Church, is designed for preschool through high school students to learn subjects difficult to teach at home or best taught in group settings.
